Biography

Mia was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1980 and has lived in Africa for most of her life. Mia’s grandfather was a photographer and when he died he left her with his lenses and cameras. She became passionate about photography- having her first exhibition at 18, documenting her life living in a small village in the mountains of Nepal.
Mia majored in anthropology and at the same time took to the film world. She worked on four series of Survivor for CBS in remote parts of the world, produced and directed 2 shorts independently- Journey- on the Path of Shamanism in Britain & Watoto Wa Dunia (click here to see). She went on to assist award winning photographers Angela Fisher and Carol Bekwith and later on Martin Parr with projects in Africa.
Mia currently works as a photographer & is also the production manager for Viewfinders the documentary/wildlife film company. In 2010, Viewfinders celebrated it’s facilitation of 1000 films- incl- award winning- Planet Earth, Life of Mammals, Big Cat Diary and many more. Most recently, Mia worked for IMAX/Warner Brothers as their Kenyan production manager on a 3D large format film about orphaned orangutans and elephants. Mia has since gone on to see the launch of the book "Women are Heroes-Kibera" she worked with a team on the book in collaboration with French artist/photographer and 2011 TED prize winner JR.
